6th International Terre degli Elimi Tournament

5/22/2015 – After a very successful first edition of International Etna tournament in Nicolosi (CT), in December, a new event – 6th International Terre degli Elimi Tournament will be held this summer from Alessandro Monaco and his chess club “Amici della Scacchiera” (Chessboard Friends) on the west side of the Sicily island in Erice. Three Opens, A for players with>1800 rating, B for players with <2000 rating in 9 rounds and C for players with <1500 elo in 8 rounds, will be played from July 28th to August 4th, 2015 in Erice. 7/8/2014  This year too the participation in the 5th International Chess Festival “Terre degli Elimi” has been remarkable – a total of 108 players which is a new record for Sicily in the last ten years. There were 68 players in the Open A, 25 in the Open B and 15 in the Open C – among them 50 foreign players from 15 countries. [Discuss]

He is a lowly FM, rated 2291 – not a professional player but a pure amateur who restared his chess career just last year. But in the beautiful town Erice on Sicily, where 82 players from 14 countries were gathered, Andrea Amato was in top form. To everybody's delight he scored a stunning 6.0/7 and finished alone at the top of the final table. [Discuss]



Third International Chess Festival 'Terre degli Elimi'

The playing venue of this festival is Erice, a beautiful medieval town in Sicily, located about 700 meters above sea level overlooking the Strait of Sicily, with a view of Mount Etna in the distance. Apart from Russian GM Vladimir Epishin, who won the A Group with 6.5/7 points, there were a host of female players who finished in the top ten. [Discuss]
